I Need Database/Directories Help.

Hello:

I recently bought some space on a server. I've received some emails which describe some of the services provided by the host. I want to implement an Access database into my site, and I am having a hard time understanding the instructions sent to me by the host. Maybe someone out there can make some sense of this......Here is the excerpt:

For Microsoft Access databases first create a directory called
'database' at the SAME level as your 'html' directory. This must be done with
an FTP client and not Microsoft FrontPage. This directory cannot be
inside the 'html' directory. This will ensure that your database has the
proper permissions on it and that no-one that visits your site will be
able to directly download your database.

Upload your database to this 'database' directory. Then visit our
Support HelpDesk at http://www.1planhost.com/support/helpdesk and create a
support ticket and include the following:

1. Your Domain Name
2. Desired DSN (Data Source Name) (no spaces and lower case)
3. Database file name (ie. database.mdb) (no spaces and lower case)
4. Database location (ex. d:/html/users/yourdomaincom/database)

I don't understand too much about "FTP client". I also don't understand creating a directory at the same level as the "HTML directory". I need some help here. Thanks.

The FTP client is just the FTP program that you are using, like CuteFTP or WS_FTP. Your public HTML directory is the root directory of your website. When you FTP into your site, you will see all of your directories (folders). You will see a public_HTML directory. So just make sure that the database directory that you create when you ftp into the site is not inside the public_HTML directory.
