I would say to learn HTML and make it from there. You gotta have some free time though. You could then move on to use publisher software, and stuff.

Don't begin with publisher software, coz when your site breaks, you won't know what is actuall wrong with it!

I made a small tutorial to HTML which is on my site at...
http://www.btinternet.com/~vulcan25/html/index.html

If your company is big and also i$ loaded you could consider getting together a web-team! also you would want to get a server, to avoid hosting it on someone elses

Good Luck.

Thank you for the replies, keep them coming.

ok , this operation has no big $$$$$, is a mom (me) and Pops operation, and we have somehow gotten into a "junk" yard business by accident and would like to sell a few of these parts, we have a parts store and service center for 12 years in the bonnies in Ariz.
I can build a server, Thanks to a PC Disk I have and that is about all i know how to do, need to purchase a web name i guess, and from there clueless, so any help much appreciated.
Thank you for any and all help.

If it is Mom and Pop, you don't need a server. You just need a host. It will be pretty cheap depending on the plan that you use. Read some of the other threads here if you want to find out some more info on good hosts. Then you need to need to figure out a domain name. Registering a domain name will cost you $8.95 a year at GoDaddy. From there it can get pretty involved especially if you want to sell some parts over the Internet. If you have lots of parts, then a database is necessary. So in addition to learing HTML you will have to learn HTML and some kind of server-side scripting language. There are plenty of free shopping carts that you can use but these are not for newbies and require a fair amount of knowledge to customize. I am not trying to poo-poo on your idea. I just want you to understand what you may be getting yourself into. Learn HTML first and then design your site. When you are comfortable at that level, then start looking into to selling items. Plenty of help out there on the Internet also for people like you, here and elsewhere.

mairving ,

Thank you for the help.

Ok I have downloaded a program to learn html with, so will start that and go from there.
I think I'd like to build a server, but all this would be on a very slow dial up line, that a problem?? this website would need to be 24/7 right and on dial up would be pricey cause we only get 175 hours a month, or am I on the wrong page ??
again Thank you for the help!

You can build a server but it just adds to the complexity of things. You can't really run a server off of dial-up. It really is plain not worth it to run a server for one site. Get someone to host your site and let them worry about keeping the server running. You should just worry about setting up your site.

You can get a good host for your domain for less than 10 bucks a month - thats the ONLY way to do it in your scenario. If all you want is an informative site to list your parts and show photos with no e-commerce involved, you can slap that together using a graphical web editor (Front Page - yuck - Netscape Composer, etc.), or even M$ Word's or M$ Publisher's HTML converter. This will get you up and operating quickly, but you won't learn anything and it may be difficult to make minor adjustments, and you will probably wind up with bloated code and slow loading pages.
