I recently downloaded/installed IE 6. Whenever I attempt to access certain websites (ie, banking/secure) I get the error (cut and pasted) below. I've tried to adjust the settings but obviously I haven't found whatever it is that needs to be adjusted because I continuosly keep receiving this extremely frustrating error. Any help would be greatly appreciated ASAP........
Tami Su The full text error is below: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: Click the Refresh button, or try again later. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings. If you would like Windows to try and discover them, click Detect Network Settings Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed. If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. Click the Back button to try another link. Hi TAMI SU,
Are the other websites of the secure type also? Does the page time out first, then give you the message? Do you know the IP address, ie; 192.xxx.xx.x? Have you tried to ping the site or run a Tracert? Sorry for all the questions, but we gotta try to figure it out. Carl |

Thanks for your time Carl-
yes, it only happens when trying to view secure websites. It doesn't time out, it almost immediately gives the error. One of the address' was 199.244.218.52 I downloaded Netscape and am now able to have access to the sites that IE couldn't view/find server. But I'd still like to fix IE, so any help would be great. Thanks again- TAMI SU |

TAMI SU,
I run IE6 and typed in the address you listed and it opened right away. So as not to leave you hanging or run you in circles, here are some things to check in to, if you haven't already. Go to MS Update and check to see if you have all of the IE 6 patches. Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and see if there is anything there that should be checked or unchecked. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and run a repair on IE 6. I hope you find something in these places that are keeping you from accessing these sites. Carl |

TAMI SU,
As carlgif pointed out, check you internet options. Go to the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security section. Make sure that at least SSL2 is turned on. You should have both SSL2 and SSL3. Also, check you cipher strength in the Help > About. If it shows a cipher strength of 0 you may have a problem. Check this link anyway just for general principles. http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/ans...m#secure_sites Hope that helps. The Old Man |
