getting message "page has expired"
not sure why, but lately i have been getting alot of "warning: page has expired" messages, whenever i go back to a previous page in a website or hotmail etc. I can easily just press the refresh button and the page shows up but have to do this everytime and it is really annoying. Does anyone know why i am getting this message? Thanks.

bhome83,
What OS and browser version? Did this just begin happening where it was working previously? It IS possible that it is the fault of the server pages and the way they are coded but I think that is unlikely. This happens most often when a page is built using the POST method in a form. Check the suggestions and make sure you have the up to date version and patches to IE. http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q183763 Good luck. The Old Man |

im using windows xp professional with IE 6 ( the one that came with the OS) yes this did just start happening. Not sure what i did though. I don't think i changed any settings but again im not sure. it seems as though this problem happens on some webpages more than another but it happens on several pages so i know it is not the individual webpage. I have zonealarm firewall installed. But i have had that for a long time, even when i didn't have this problem. the page you gave me applies to IE 4, so that wont help. thanks.

bhome83,
Just because a problem existed in IE4 does not necessarily mean it was fixed in IE6. It's Micro$oft! Just kidding. I get this also on XP Pro and IE6. I also got it on NT, 98, etc. and with IE 5 and 5.5. If you back browse to a page that used a POST method, the data will be expired. As far as I know [and that ain't much], it's normal if the page is on a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0 server, and the Web page uses the "cache-control: private" tag in the header. You can check this out by viewing the page source when it happens. Look for the tag above and look for POST. Try checking your internet options ? Advanced > Security and disable the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk". It's worth a shot. The Old Man |

Hi bhome83,
I'm not sure if this will help but it's worth a shot. Make sure you haven't disabled the browser's ability to accept cookies. Sometimes a cookie will be placed on your machine in order to "remember" if you've already been to certain parts of a site. For example, sites with shopping carts place cookies to keep track of your current shopping spree. Other sites will use cookies to only display popup windows on your first entry to the site. When you move within the site and return to the home page, the cookie will not allow the annoying popup window to return. Good luck. |
