I just found out today that I can get cable internet at my house now!!! Woohooo!
But, it's gonna cost me $65 a month!!!! $60 a month for the service because I'm not a cable TV subscriber, and $5 a month modem rental. Then again, I pay $28 a month for AOL... Now I gotta figure out a way to talk my husband into getting it. |

Heck, I'd just hook it up and deal with whatever comes.
Remember....it's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. ![]() I could never go back to dial up now that we have cable. freezinbutt |

lol
I called their office today and got the 20 minute "all our operators are busy" recording. Hope the tech support department is better staffed! (Not that I would ever call them when you guys know more and work faster anyway!) |

I went through the same thing. Had to wait on hold forever when I found out they were offering cable out where I live. I never though they would even offer it. I had DSL for a while but it did not work all that well. The reward is definately worth the wait on hold...trust me.

After having a cable modem for five years, I'd rather take a sharp stick in the eye than use the dial-up I'm forced to have now. I am on the internet about five minutes a day. Go for it Jenni, do what you have to do to talk papa into it.

If you're anything like the women in my life, the only problem is getting thru to order service.
I would probably buy the modem and save the $5.00 a month. Chas PS It will change your whole internet experience. I found that not only that I use the net more now, but my wife also uses it a lot more.

you people are lucky. i live in the boondocks (actually, it's not the boon docks but the rest of the world acts like it is), and from what all the companies are telling me, there are no plans for broadband connections in my area. it's rediculous. the only option i have is sattelite, and it's too slow for gaming. stupid suisun!

The only drawback to having cable internet service is that you will never, ever be happy going back to dial-up. Cable internet spoils you for the rest of your life until something faster comes along!
Having said that...it's still the best thing I ever put money into as far as computers are concerned! |

Just went to the cable co. and asked about package cable\internet deals. They don't have any. So, basic cable (digital service) is $46.45 a month, and internet is $54.95 a month, or a grand total of $101.40 a month.
OUCH! I can get just internet for $65 a month, but hubby wants the Weather Channel again. Guess I'll have to talk it over with him later. BTW, I heard that if you do get just internet, that you can split the cable and get some basic channels anyway, because they can't\don't separate the internet signal from the rest. Does anyone know if that is true? |

If you have a cable ready TV I don't see any reason why not. That is reason I want a video card with TV tuner. I like to check FOX news during the day, but now that my wife is home full time I don't to get to watch as much as I would like.
Another reason I say that is my TV has PIP and I can use that feature to watch a non premium channel while taping a show on one of the premium channels. Chas |

Lucky you, Jenni....go for it girl!!
I thought we were getting close to cable modem service in my area until Mediacom took over from ATT a few months ago. But the local cable tech is a friend of mine and he keeps assuring me that it's coming...he's been running fiber around town in preparation for it....hope springs eternal! I recently attended a "dog and pony" show that my ISP held to unveil their RF broadband alternative to dialup. 128K for $50/month...256K for $90/month...$500 installation fee. Hmmm...lesse...on a GOOD day MAYBE twice the connection rate at almost 3 times what I'm paying for dialup...and a $500 installation fee to boot?...needless to say, I didn't bite. |
