I have recently become interested in the web page creation and design thing. I have looked at a few web page creation software packages and wanted a little advice on which one would be the best investment. I do plan to pursue web page creation as a hobby, but not professionally. I have looked at the FrontPage 2002 and Dreamweaver 4 with Flash 5/MX packages. Which one would be the best to purchase? Thanks.

I always recommend learning HTML. But if you want to use a WYSIWYG editor, I recommend Dreamweaver, it's definately less bloated than FrontPage.

FrontPage is the worst program ever made of any kind for anything. Use Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver MX is also on the way, so, you may want to wait a couple of months for that.

I'm going to throw in a vote for virtually anything but Front Page. It's a whole lot of worthless and not fun. Dreamweaver is the way to go.

Out of the two I recommend Dreamweaver as well. It might be a little harder to get into but it caters to the advanced designer much better than frontpage. But you should not start out using one of those programs. Go to HTMLgoodies & learn HTML. It will take you like 30 minutes to go through their primers. Then go to Webmonkey and learn CSS.
Don't start designing before you learn both! Homesite, the awesome HTML editor that Mairving mentioned is what I use. It comes bundled with Dreamweaver. |

Considering all I need an editor for is tedious stuff such as table layouts, Netscape Composer does fine for me

I'll throw in a second for homesite. If you really want control over your HTML go with Homesite. I'll also agree with the others in that Frontpage is bloated. You don't need all the crap in Frontpage to write simple HTML pages. I've not used Dreamweaver so I can't comment on that one.

Thanks for all the information everyone. As well as the sites that teach you a little about the products. Looks like Dreamweaver is the one to get. Again, thanks.
