I have comcast broadband cable. I also have bring your own ISP aol. Recently, after about a year, I have been unable to browse with IE 6.0 without signing on to aol in a separate window first.
If I just open IE with a desktop shortcut the IE icon spins forever while it says it's LOOKING FOR PROXY SETTINGS. Any ideas? Mike McLaughlin |

Assuming you aren't using a Proxy server and then make sure in tool option and connections that the proxy settings are "unchecked".

Just curious, If you have cable, why AOL anyway?

Under connections, rerun the connection wizard from the "setup" button in Internet Options, and tell it you connect via LAN.

Yes, you have to get rid of that proxy. The lan settings page must be totally blank.

Thanks everyone. Clearing out the lan settings worked.
