Virus or simply a HD Crash?
I was running an Athlon 1.4 with a 60gb 7200rpm maxtor hD. I was playing Counter-strike and the moment I shot, the server crashed. I reconnected, and this time, I was the first to connect. The EXACT moment the next person connected, my computer screen flashed and it rebooted. During POST, I was informed that my HD could not boot. I was running WinXP. I have seen how easy it is to gain access to (another person's XP box) so I wasn't sure if that had something to do with it of if even the CS server had something to do with it. (It seems like more than a coincidence that at those two EXACT moments something restarted. First the server, then my computer).
Any ideas? If Sec. 0 was deleted on my HD, would I have to RMA it back to Maxtor or would a low-level format take care of that? Thanks in advance. |

Have you tried booting from a boot disk and running scandisk?

Probably just file corruption.
Try booting to the XP CD and running a repair on the boot sector files, see if that cleans it up. |
