Hi jables,
Plenty to choose from here, depending on which scripting language you want to use or your server supports. PHP http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...ussion_Boards/ Best is phpBB http://www.phpbb.com/ ASP http://www.hotscripts.com/ASP/Script...ussion_Boards/ Best is Snitz Forums 2000 http://forum.snitz.com/ Perl/CGI http://www.hotscripts.com/Perl/Scrip...ussion_Boards/ Best is Ikonboard http://www.ikonboard.com/ Hope that helps. |

PHPBB requires PHP and a database. Generally the db is MySQL but I think that it can be made to use others. IkonBoard requires Perl. I am not sure about the database. Not sure about the requirements of the ASP forum.

All of the message boards I listed above use MySQL.
http://www.mysql.com/ For phpBB, you need MySQL and PHP installed. http://www.php.net For Snitz Forums 2000, you need MySQL (or MS Access) and IIS (aka. PWS) installed (which comes free on with Win95/98/2K/XP Pro). For Ikonboard, you need MySQL and Perl installed (ActivePerl is best free version). http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/ Hope that helps. |

Looks like it's been updated for other dbases, thanks for the info mairving. Like you, I would still recommend using MySQL.

Ikonboard can still use a flatfile DB, but MySQL will be much faster and easier to maintain.
