Is it possible to gain access to someones PC and copy folders while they are chatting with you on windows messinger in windows XP? I have a game I play online and have setups saved in folders and shortcuts to them on my desktop. I went to play the game awhile ago and the folders had too many tunes in them and I was chatting with a person I race with online and while I was trying to straighten them out he was chatting with me and once he left, everything seems to be fine now and there is a folder on the desktop named "test" and I didnt put it there. Please tell me how I can try to figure out if thius was done...I am freaking out here....

I just did a Google search for security issues with MSN Messenger and came back with quite a few hits. There are lots of articles out there regarding this issue so I would say yes, it is very possible to get hacked using this service. Quite frankly, you are vulneralbe with any product made by microsoft. Since their products are so widely used, they are favorite targets.
If I were you I would do a complete virus scan and be sure to do a scan for trojans and worms. If you aren't using a firewall, (either hardware or software) you might want to think about using one in the future. freezinbutt |

moparacer... you are vulnerable with ANY chatting software... yahoo, AOL, Microsoft, ICQ... all have holes. First, make sure you have the latest patches for XP. Then, make sure that in your Messenger settings, only people on your buddy list can contact you. And there should be a setting in there for downloading (I think???)... disable any downloading through messenging software. NEVER download anything through any messenger. EVER!
