IIS and slow internet speed problem!

k, I installed the IIS from my Win XP pro disk so I could run a webpage. Eversince I've done so, my internet connection has nearly died on me, it takes forever to find the server and then connect to the host. I've even noticed my online games boot me saying that the server has dropped the connection.

What can I do to gain performance?

Are you sure you aren't being scanned by outside hosts? Running IIS on your connection will certainly make you a target for IIS exploit scans which can eat up your bandwidth. Check your web server logs for accesses. Along those lines, make sure a virus or trojan (like Nimda) hasn't been introduced to your system because of an exploit. Running IIS is a risky proposition. It takes dilligence to keep it safe.

I'd also double check your DNS settings to make sure that's OK. Also look at Task Manager to see if there is any particular process that may be hogging your RAM or CPU cycles. Heck, INETINFO.EXE (which is IIS) may be hogging your resources!

Good luck.

I would recommend getting rid of IIS before it causes a few virus contractions on your part .

LOL, Ooops!

K, cool. I was rather worried about running IIS cause I have heard alot of horrable stories from my annonymous friends, lol. I was only testing IIS to run *.asp files on my webpage, but I took IIS off pretty quick anyway and need something else.

So is Apache the securest that I can run on my system? I need something free, reasonably fast, capable of running *.asp files, and above all - secure.

thanx,
jalbes

If you're running ASP pages, you'd have to get additional software to make it run on Apache. ASP is a Microsoft thing.
