ISP Pinger

I have a new ISP which keeps dumping me if my browser lies idle for more than about a minute (such as when I'm reading these forums).

I know there is a small program out there which 'pings' the ISP at regular intervals to keep the connection live.

Can anybody remember the name of this little piece of software?

I really hate the ISPs that kick you for being inactive. One of the programs on this site should do the trick: http://www.zdnetindia.com/downloads/...desc,0,95.html

You might want to see if you can change the kicktime of your ISP. Most ISPs let you adjust the time.

Ps. Next time try google. It took me 30 Seconds to find the site.

Might just leave your email program open and have it check for new mail. (often)

One minute is an insanely short amount of time. I would talk to your ISP to see if that can be changed. If not, why not try Ping Plotter? I use it as a general all-purpose ping tool, and you can set it up to ping a site continuously with any delay from 1 second on up. Do a search at www.download.com for it.

I've used this over the years and it seems to work well

http://www.zesoft.com/alive/

Hmmm...Alive doesn't seem to be alive anymore. That's a pity because it was free.

Just do a search for "Disconnection Stoppers" and you will find scores of them.

Years ago I used to use one called Ponger. Now I have a background e-mail checker that checks every 5 minutes.

Also, the instant messengers all ping the ISP/messaging servers pretty regularly so that might be sufficient to keep you on line.
