Maybe some of the freebies are OK. I paid $10 for a program called POPNOT. It works really good. Kills pop ups by default. Easily turns off-on.
It's one of three sharewares I've actually paid for in over 15 years of owning a computer. The first was to get a modem to work (in the OLD days). The other was a banner killer for the free internet connections! |

FilterGate (http://www.filtergate.com) is quite good. It also blocks 3rd party cookies, banner ads, background music, and web bugs. It isn't free however.

Just stop using IE
.Mozilla has the ability to turn off window.open scripts while letting javascript stay functional. |

I use Popup Killer..
...and it gets some of the popups, but not all of them. And forget about the "pop unders". It doesn't get any of those.
Still, better than having nothing. But if I find a program that kills, mercilessly, ALL popups, popunders, and every annoying ad inbetween, I'm going for it

pretyblkgrl,
I use popup stopper in conjunction with AdSubtract, both free. I haven't had a popup over, under, or in between since. In the one week I've used AdSubtract, it has blocked over 14,000 ads. My webpages load fast and smooth as I browse. Carl |

I have Ad-Subtract Pro. It's great for killing popups and ad banners which really helps with quicker loading pages as Carl suggests.
