Hub Port = Firewall???
Hello all! awhile ago someone posted that getting a hub port comes with an added feature of a firewall right on the hardware. Is this correct? Is there any other networking hardware that does this for a reasonable price?

There really wouldn't be any need for a firewall on a hub. A hub is only used in private, not Internet, networks. A Cable/DSL router, which is a switch with NAT (Network Address Translation) built-in is your best bet. Definitely cheaper now, anywhere from $50-100.

Hub itself offers no firewall protection. You need a router. Also if you only use a hub for multiple PC's connected to net then each will need it's own IP address. With a router you only need 1 IP address for multiple PC's.

Thanks guys! So does that mean all routers are firewalls by nature? or only when they claim to be so?

They have basic firewall functions when they are "NAT" routers (network address translation).
