ISP rules question.
I was just wondering how serious the ISPs are about their terms of service. Mine says it does not allow servers, do you think they would really terminate my account, and are they likely to find out? If it is risky, I'd not do it, but I'd like to know, and maybe purchase a static IP from them. I hope this doesn't cross any boundries for PCmech rules.

I think they don't like servers because of the bandwidth they are likely to take up, I would think they feel that if you are going to use that kind of bandwidth you should pay for it. This is just my opinion, not definitive facts.

I can tell you this -- ATTbi will scrap your service immediately if they find you're running a server of any kind.
Just my experience (actually a friend's) with one ISP. -Craig |

The ToS are what keeps the ISP afloat. Most diligent ISPs would & should scan for servers and terminate accounts, kinder ones might send you a notification of the violation.

I agree....almost all the ISPs around here would terminate your acct and they do keep track of this. The bandwidth you use would affect other users and it would throw up a red flag.
