Mail Software
We're looking for a good IMAP email client. Outlook Express is dumb, so I see as although we've got an IMAP server (i.e. all of the messages are stored on the server and the client should just read them from there) it makes a LOCAL COPY of the emails
Isn't that a bit stupid... your thoughts please If there is not an option to turn off this ridiculous copying of emails from the server in Outlook Express could you please recommend a program which doesn't do this Thanks,

Thanks GLC, another thing, if you were to disconnect from your server, would you be able to read old emails?
The question I am asking: Does Pegasus make a copy of IMAP emails from the server to your local machine This is what we DON'T want to happen Thanks, |

No it does not, unless you copy it to a local folder yourself. Download Pegasus and play with it, see what you think. http://www.pmail.com .

Do note that Pegasus is not very user friendly - you might want to spend some time reading the included documentation. It takes some time getting used to if you are only used to the M$ way of doing things. It is a very powerful client when set up and used properly.
If you want a free IMAP account to play with, go to www.myrealbox.com , that's actually part of Novell. Spam is almost totally nonexistent unless you use it as a "throwaway" account. Incoming is filtered for both known spam and viruses. |

What about Outlook 2000? I think that works as an IMAP client.
I don't know about the licensing requirements for it though. |

Thank you, this is most helpful
I have tried it, works fine with POP3 (before I read any documentation but there - I'm male I don't need manuals or so we think) |
