Javascript not working in Netscape 6.2?
First of all let me say - I am not au fait with NS.
I've just been testing some of my favourite cut and paste JavaScript (falling menus, mouse trails, floating images, ad naseum) for the first time in NS 6.2 - and they don't work. JavaScript is enabled in NS Preferences. These examples taken from all the usual JavaScript sources where they say the are compatible with IE 4+ and NS 4+. So what gives. I'd like to be good boy and ensure in time honoured tradition that all my design is cross-browser compatible - but I don't particularly want to give up some of the effects I've been working on. Will what was suppose to work on NS 4+ not work on NS 6.2? Should I be brave, unprofessional, and lazy - and just forget about NS. Convince me I should care. Any views or enlightenment. |

I would say your first bet would be to take a look at any "bleeding-edge" constructs you are using. A lot of the newer client-side effects are JScript (MS-specific) only. That is to say, they will work with IE and probably nothing else.
I have run into similar problems. If I tried to use some of the newer JScript features, they would not work in anything but IE. NS would choke on them, regardless how new the version of the browser. |

Thanks for your input UncaDanno.
The problem is that all the JavaScript I've been working on in IE is supposed to be cross-browser compatible. I've been to quite a few JavaScript sites and not many of their sample scripts are working in this browser. However, I've done some preliminary scouting around and it appears that Netscape 6.2 might be a different beast entirely. However, I need to do some more research and decyphering the goobledegook before I can tell. It's a pain in the butt when you've got to restrict your creativity because of certain browsers limitations. Heck, Netscape created JavaScript, so you'd think they'd pull their finger out, and make their Browser more JavaScript friendly. Anyway, I'll do some more research when I have time. |

JScript is *NOT* Javascript - JScript is Microsoft's nonstandard implementation if I'm not mistaken.
