Pissed Please help.......

Ok, I know about all the popup killer software etc. The problem I am having on my work computer is that even without IE running, I will get literally thousands of popups that keep coming until my machine locks up because it is low on resources. The popup killers work fine to control it, but I believe there is some underlying problem that I would like to rid this machine of. I've ran most virus scans, ad-aware and stuff, but I can't seem to find out what is causing this nuisance, sometimes untimely at that. Thanks in advance.

scottb99,
You might want to Cont+Alt+Del and see what programs are running in the background. Look for something you don't recognize.

Scott, one thing that is inherrant with popups is that they will sometimes throw a file in your temp internet folder and a cookie or two that you won't be able to delete while connected to the internet. I ran into this before, and had to disconnect from the net, then search for the offending files, and then delete. Hope you track em and kill em.

Time for a virus scan with an updated scanner, a trojan scan (The Cleaner is highly recommended), and a spyware scan with Ad-Aware.

Thanks for all the help, hopefully I'll track this thing down. It is so annoying.
