Active setup is a pain in the butt - try to find a site with the full Netscape download. Is IE working right? Do I understand correctly that you downloaded Opera and installed it - and it won't go anywhere? We need more details, such as how you are connecting to the Internet and anything else pertinent such as firewalls, etc. Are you using AOL or another proprietary system (or maybe ad blocking software) that requires a proxy setup?

Open Internet Options in control panel, and go to the Connections tab, then LAN settings - are any of the boxes checked and are there any proxy servers listed? If there are, you have to duplicate the settings (including Advanced) in the Opera setup, proxies are under Network in the preferences.
