Hi

here is the scenario. i have a leased link to an isp. i have been given a class c ip block of 252 subnet. the leased link is up. the modem is usrobotics v.everything . i have connected the modem to the serial port of a win98 machine which i intend to use as a wingate server.

now what do i need to do so i can use the link to get on to the net?? i cannot ping to the other side. maybe i need to add some protocols or something????

Seems to me a leased line should use a router, not a modem. Check with your provider to see what hardware you need on your end to use it.

What kind of leased line do you have?

DSL? T-1? Frame Relay? ISDN?

As glc stated, you're looking at a router or different type of "modem" depending on the service.
