No address bar

I was helping a friend set up a fairly new Dell running Win XP today when I noticed that IE had no address bar. I was trying to show him how to enter a URL in IE 6 but the address bar was missing. I went to the View/toolbars menu and removed and replaced the check by Address Bar a few times, rebooted etc., but the address bar is still missing. I'm not familiar with Win XP but I doubt if that has anyting to do with it. Any ideas where the address bar went or how to get it back?

Thank you, Tiffany

Is "lock the toolbars" checked? Or under Tools, Internet Options, advanced, try clicking "restore defaults". Hit the F11 key and right click the bar at top and select address bar. If you can see it (although small), you may have it customized to not appear. The address bar is there but "probably" hidden. If you uncheck "lock the toolbars" and select address bar you can probably move it.

Thanks Sarge. I'll be going to his residence again tomorrow or Saturday. I'll try your suggestions. Tiffany

Well, the Sarge is right again. I couldn't wait until tomorrow to find that damn address bar so I went to my friend's house tonight and tried your suggestions. Sure enough the toolbars were locked so I unlocked them, then found the Address Bar button in the upper right corner of the window. I dragged (drug?) the address bar out to its full length and that fixed it. I didn't know that you could drag the address bar back and forth like that.

Hey Sarge, thank you my friend. You still da man. Tiffany

Glad it worked. I've never had that problem so I did some research for us both; I learned something as well.
