.pdf files won't show up in browser
im having this problem where when i try to view a .pdf file in IE6 i get a message saying: "could not find acrobat external window handler." I even went into acrobat reader 5.0 to check the preferences and "display pdf browser" was checked already. I even unchecked it and still didn't work. just asked me if i wanted to save .pdf file. any way to fix this? Thanks.

Give this a whirl:
Start up your Acrobat Reader independently of your browser, then - Click on the File dropdown menu and highlight the Preferences then General options. Once there, remove the check from the WEB BROWSER INTEGRATION box (located in the bottom section of the General Options box), then click OK. (This should cause a window for a particular PDF file to pop up with the PDF file you want to view displayed - for IE5.0 and up). -or- Go to the link for the file that you are interested in, and RIGHT-click on the link for that file. Highlight the SAVE TARGET AS (in IE 5.0 and up) option and save the PDF file to your hard drive, and Open Acrobat Reader independently of your browser, locate and open the file you just downloaded. Must have a different version. In the ones I have, Preferences is under File. Going to File>Preferences>General brings up the General Preferences dialogue box. In there, in the area of Options, the Web Browser Integration option shows up on the lower right.
Check it out again. If this does not work, try the Save Target As suggestion in the previous posting. |

5.05 has it in preferences - options - web browser options - view pdf in web browser. Uncheck that, see what happens.
