Search engine site submission

Hi all,

What do people think is the most effective and cheapest (preferably free) way to get my site listed in Google and other search engines.

At the moment, Google hasn't listed it, tough I submitted it a week ago.

They say that it can take a long time but will be quicker the more sites link to mine.

Where could I post my site for this to work? Isn't it incredibly bad etiquette to post it into forums like this?

I didnt need to submit my site to any search engines, there crawlers did all the work,

If you leave it a while then more than likely it would show up too,

I dont use search engines perticulary often, but checked google to see if my site was listed and to my amazment they had a listing of everything - every page, download etc...

So just make sure you get some good meta tags going in your html file(s),
That'll help

(if you need some help with that then shout, i'll post some examples)

Regards,
James

Google doesn't really use metatags in indexing a site. They use page titles, page content and have recently started using info from dmoz.org for site descriptions. Submitting your site to search engines can make the process of getting your site listed easier.

It will take longer than a week for Goggle to get to your site. They have been running quite slow lately on listing new sites often taking a month or more. It really doesn't do any good to post your link in forums like this one, since they are not indexed by search engines.

The main advantage that you get of other sites linking to yours is that those are picked up an indexing and can sometimes improve search engine ranking.

I didn't post my site either. Eventually it made it to the search engines. It just takes time.

While it isn't necessarily polite to flood forums with your website address, you should put it in your user profile information. That way, we can see your website by clicking on the WWW button that most members have at the bottom of their posts. We'll take a look.

Thanks chaps (hope that's right mairving!)

I've updated my profile to give my URL.

I know that the site isn't the best at the moment, but I've got a bit of a catch 22 going on.

Until I've got my ADSL account active, I don't want to advertise myself high profile as an ADSL equipment dealer, so as to give me time to understand the product in action.

Unfortunately, British Telecom are useless, and the whole country depends on them to activate the line.

WHen that is up and running, I'll re-design the site to be more of a Net-shop with more support etc.

How are the keywords in there so far?
