Some more information would help, like your OS, modem, are you using compuserve software or dial up connection, ect...
have you tried calling compuserve tech support? Thats what you pay for, should use it if you can. |

Lethal combination of a winmodem, ME, multitasking, and proprietary connection software - CS 7.0 is just AOL in a CS shell.

yeah I wanted to get rid of it and get cable interent and use just a browser and set up a hotmail account instead. But my sister uses this when she is in college in florida, because her college is too small to have like a T1 line or anything like that. SO my dad wants to keep it for her down there. SO if he gets cable... he'd have to pay 60 bucks per month for internet, so Im stuck. ANything I could do to help this problem?? Because my computer upstairs(the one I built) ...internet wont work on it either. I had Compuserve 6.0 on that one and it stopped working!!! SO Im stuck on this comptuer.

So when you say compuserve is just like aol does that mean they dont support direct dial up? most of the time if you change your ISP you can still use the same username, just the @aol/@earthlink part that comes after would be different. so when you surf the internet you have to use a compuserver browser, cant use internet explorer or netscape. If this is the case your best solution would be to change your ISP.

ssahl: AOL/Compuserve uses a proprietary dialer. It does hook into the DUN now but you can't just manually set up the DUN. You can use a browser of choice once connected.

Ok, question then, last I checked aol was able to connect online without a dialup adaptor installed, but had something like WAN installed in the 'network adaptors' (in device manager) and the only way to connect was to hit the connect to aol icon, there was never an account in the DUN (from the my computer icon--DUN) I cant remember if there was an account in the 'internet options' or not, as I no longer will work on a machine that has aol on it. Anyway, I guess my question is, if there is no 'dial-up adaptor' installed on windows, how does it still hook up to the DUN? I always thought that the dial-up adaptor was like a main part of DUN, was I mistaken?

Since 5.0, every AOL installation I have seen has put an applet in the DUN folder with a bogus phone number and username/password, similar to the other proprietary dialer ISP's like MSN and NetZero.
