Connection Problems
Here is a good question for someone. Whenever I open my web browser, I get the prompt that can't connect, retry or work offline. When I click Retry the connection works. Has anyone else ever encountered this? If yes and you managed to clear this up can you get back to me on what was done. Thanks

Adam,
I don't have an answer to your problem but I'm sure someone does. What might help you get a knowledgeable reply would be to list your O/S, browser, and the type of connection you use, ie: dialup, dsl, cable, etc. Carl |

I've seen this problem before, don't know the exact fix. Check under IE properties (assuming you're using IE) and check the LAN settings under the Connection tab, disable Automatically detect settings.

I see this all the time with broadband shared through a router, haven't researched a fix yet, it's just a minor inconvenience.

Sorry, I'm using Windows 98, IE 5.0 and a DSL connection using PPPOE (Enternet 300). I checked the settings and the all the networking settings are unchecked. Any ideas?

As long as it works when I hit Retry, I don't sweat it.
Adam: You might consider RASPPPoE instead of the Enternet software, it's a lot less bloat and overhead. |

Same problem here with ADSL. Try Ashampoo's Power-Up
tool; under the Internet tab, at the bottom there's an option to optimize for several different connections. Worked like a charm for me. I was having to click refresh 3 or 4 times to get a page. You can get a free trial version at CNET, I believe. All the features work and are turned on; just not at the same time. You may have to open and close it a few times to get to which particular feature you want, but once it's set; that's all. |
