Newsgroups won't download

Hi, I've been watching antique radio and a few other newsgroups for ages, through O. Express, with no problems.
All of a sudden nothing will download and the only posts I can see are the last ones I looked at a few days ago. Maybe I've switched off something, but I've been through the toolbar options a few times and all seems ok. The send/receive button is inactive and dbl clicking on the newsgroup name which previously downloaded the latest posts, has no effect.
IE and eudora email are working fine.ie. the problem is in the
settings of the OE program.

Cheers,
Chris.

Parangles,

You may want to try two things:

#1. If you think that OE is not properly configured as the default email client on your computer, try the following:

To be sure OE is the default mail client, close OE, click Start>Run and enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Change the path if you installed OE elsewhere.

-Then, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel
-Double-click Internet Options, then click on the Programs tab, and verify that OE is now the default email client. (You can also get there from the IE Tools| Internet Options menu).

-Open OE and click Tools> Options, and at the bottom of the General tab, verify that OE is set as the default. If it is, the "Make Default" button will be grayed out. If not, click the button.

#2 In OE, go to Tools>Accounts, and remove your news account. Turn right around and add it.

HTH

I think Eudora is his default email - and he is asking about newsgroup functions, not email functions of OE.

Sorry I can't address this issue directly, but I use Forte Agent as my newsreader.

Yes , glc , I have tried for hours more since posting. Unsubscribed
all news groups and resubscribed ; reinstalled Win98 ; but the problem remains that no new postings will download. This is probably caused by cleaning out a lot a Windows files -Temp-Internet Temp- Cookies etc etc.
I'll try to find your Forte Agent or some other alternative to O.E to use as a news reader.
Thanks.

glc, this is getting even wierder.
I just installed Forte, configured it and subscribed to 3 newsgroups.
It downloaded posts only up to June 6th. When I open a post it's all in 'greek' ie unreadable.
I posted something and went back 10 minutes later but the post has not appeared. What the heck ?
I'm going to uninstall IE and OE and reinstall and see if that helps. Will virus scan too. Any other ideas ?
Thanks.

Thanks glc, Got this sorted out. The *greek* with the graphic images is from file associations which need to be set up for
Free Agent. I deleted OE and that seems to have cleared the problem with the failure to download new posts.
Cheers.
