Good search engines?

Is there a good search engine besides Google?

For some strange reason Google is crashing my PC everytime I click on the button Search.

TIA.

Hi Nuc,

Have you tried Alta Vista or Mamma. I haven't used AV in awhile but it used to bring up some good stuff. I use www.mamma.com when I can't get Google to find something. It does pretty good too. You can laugh but, if all else fails, sometimes I end up at Webcrawler. Usually between all of them I finally find what I want.

That's really weird, does the browser only crash with Google or other sites as well?

Go To, Excite, Yahoo, Netscape, Lycos, just to name a few. Your problem is probably not directly related to google though, maybe try upgrading your browser, or try a new one. Google is the best one thats out there, it's a shame not to be able to use it.

www.dogpile.net does a search of search engines

By the way, did you try to install the google toolbar? It might be the issue as well

Did you upgrade your browser or - if you haven't - upgrade it!?

I currently have IE 5.01. Do you think I should upgrade to 6.0, since it is the only version I found available? I've heard it is very buggy. TIA

You still find 5.5 SP2 out there:

I use IE 6 and really like. I would not say its buggy!

Hi Nuclear Krusader,

That was happening to my Mom's computer. Couldn't use Google without IE locking up. I deleted the Temporary Internet Files, set the "Amount of disk space to use" to 25MB (down from 250MB) and Google started to behave itself. Don't know what the problem actually was though. Probably some corrupt file in the TIF.
