I have Internet Explorer 6 on my computer (sig for details). I have a problem with Java in pages. 9 times out of 10 the links that use Java Script dont work. I hear the click sound but nothing happens, and I see the little Error on Page in the corner. I have the Java support enabled in the options menu.
I remember something about the new versions of IE not having Java support,....... am I crazy or was that true? Any help is appreciated... Thanks in Advance

No, you're not crazy. IE6 does not include the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine which is necessary for more involved Java stuff. Do a Windows Update and download and install the current JVM. That will probably correct the error you are experiencing.
Hope that helps. The Old Man |

Thanks for the idea TheOldMan but Im still having the problem. I downloaded and installed the Virtual machine and the Java support boxes are checked in the Advanced section of Tools>Internet Options. I tried to download a file on FilePlanet and the links to the servers are Java and they dont connect and give the "Error on Page".
Any other ideas???? Im stumped on this one. |

I have also tried to reinstall the java VM from my Windows98 CD. It says to right click on the Java.ini file in Tools>mstutil and select Install. I did this but it pops up with the error "could not find file XX". It doesnt matter what line I put in to find the file, it never finds it. I tried to "skip file" but it does that with every one.
I thought it was odd that when I browsed the Windows98 CD and wanted to install from it, it told me to "insert the Windows98 CD"... Any help is appreciated! |

Alaron56,
Are you using Pop-up Stopper? If so, hold down the Control key when you click on a page. If you don't use it, disregard. Carl |

I'm glad to be of help.
I had the same problem right after installing PU Stopper. Went back to settings and there was the instruction to use the control key, especially if you have PU Stopper set to "Agressive". Carl |

I just want to mention that the Java VM is used to run Java applets and programs (the ones you see in gray boxes), while Javascript can run fine without it since it's just interpreted by IE. In this case, Pop-Up Stopper supresses the Javascript that is used to make pop-up windows and cases the errors you had.
