Help a Newbie To Newsgroups Out

I've just started using newsgroups for the first time this week and boy is it ever confusing. I've got some good servers from a friend most of them are alt.binary.something, I'm not sure if that relevant.

I first tried to use them in Outlook Express 5 but I wasn't having much luck. Someone recomnended NewsBin to me so I've been trying that without much success. I seem to be getting a lot of gibberish when I load messages and whenever I try and download files I have problems. Is there anywhere that I can find a good simple guide to newsgroups? Or would someone care to make a quick one?

You're not alone. I don't understand newsgroups or how to access them. Never really gave it the time.

Here's a good guide.

You have to know your ISPs newsgroup server first, check your ISPs support page.

Hey Dr.Z.,
How 'bout if I don't want to use Outhouse Express? I use Eudora 3.0.

I know my ISPs news server. They arn't very creative - news.mts.net, just like
mail.mts.net and
SMPT.mts.net

LawyerRon, I don't think Eudora supports newsgroups.

Nope, Eudora doesn't support newsgroups. Mostly, one's choices are Outlook Express, Mozilla (pretty good), Opera, and Free Agent. Think Netscape does too, but since I don't have it on my computer, I wouldn't know.
