Hotmail requires MSN Messenger!
This is starting to get rather annoying now. Whenever I sign in to hotmail MSN Messenger starts up on my PC
Not only am I worried because I realise that 'A website is executing a program on my hard drive!' but also because it's Microsoft and I'd like to know how to stop it I do use MSN Messenger, but I don't want to use it all of the time. I cannot close it while an MSN Site is in my web browser. (Warning message MSN Messenger is required by Internet Explorer or other program running at the moment) I managed to turn this 'feature' off for Outlook where the same thing would happen How can I turn it off for Internet Explorer? After a little look round I can't find any setting Thanks,

In Outlook look under the tools/options/ general tab and uncheck "automaticly log onto MSN Messenger"
Sorry, I read too fast and didn't see you already did that. ![]() Have you tried unchecking the "automatic start" and "run in the background" in the preference section of Messenger? I have these unchecked and have never had a problem. Just a thought.
