Faulty connection for WWW
Ok, the other post I made about this seems to be outdated, and the subject is wrong and I can't change it, sorry.
I am running through a D-Link 10/100 NIC to a Linksys router via CAT5 and then into my Toshiba cable modem via another CAT5 using RoadRunner for an ISP. My router is set to run as a gateway, and the IP and DNS are set to get gotten automatically. DCHP is enabled, and my updated PC-Cillin shows no viruses, at the moment. I get any and all of the following things, either right when I open IE or, usually, in the middle of browsing: 1. Automatic redirection to random pages, some of which I have never visited 2. 404 file not found errors, unable to view this page at this time errors, etc. 3. The page just hangs there, with the windows icon in the upper right waving but the page NEVER changes 4. Random pictures and graphics do not show up, but instead show a box with a red X. These graphics sometimes work if I restart IE. Sometimes whole things don't show up, like one a reply post page, everything below the forum name and thread name is blank, white with nothing. Most of these things are fixed if I restart IE, but will come back within 5-10 minutes, it is sort of random. It is not fixed when I run a CAT5 directly from my NIC to my modem. What if the CAT5 cable was damaged itself? I "hid" it behind moldings, under steps etc. so it doesn't show because I have to run it from one floor of my house to the other. I did this several months ago, and the problems are occurring in the last, oh, 4-5 days only. Since I hid the cable, I have not touched it, nor as anything had real physical access to it. I think that's all the info I can give right now, time to go to sleep in my brand new bed

Hoping you don't have some hijacking going on, the below should fix. Wouldn't hurt to run Ad-Aware anyway. Start, Run, type REGSVR32 URLMON.dll and it will indicate when completed. Then from IE, tools, internet options, programs, click "reset web settings".
Good luck

Well I have run Ad-Aware twice in the past two days, and three times in the past month. Only the first time did it find stuff.
But since I have done what you said, I have not run into any problems. That may have done the trick. Thanks Sarge |
