I haven't looked at it yet, but my parents are saying that their "dail Up" connection to the net is messed up. I built them a system with Windows XP Home Version a few months ago. It's been working like a charm since early April.
Mother says sometimes it connects, sometimes doesn't, and if it does, nothing opening up in the browser. Have a 56K, US Robotics modem in it that I took out of my computer when I got cable. Don't know what error messages she's getting yet. I will get back with more details. Just wanted to put this post in and see if anyone could tell me areas to check in Windows XP. I have Windows 98 and not too familiar with XP as of yet. |

If their internet access is through software like AOL or MSN, you may have to re-install it. The other thing, given the hit or miss connection is that the phone lines at the connection points are corroded or loose.

I checked the computer out. I found a fire wall enable in their dial up network connection. I disable that and was able to get on the net and got it working. However, it still occasionally gets real slow in downloading.
I think this is their server connections causing the trouble. They've had her change phone numbers to connect several times since my parents had this service. This is a brand new house with new phone lines. I don't expect and phone line or connection problems. Radar |
