*.tpl

what excatly is a *.tpl file I noticed them with phpbb I was wondering what they was ? anyone

Template files with the colors and such for the layout of the forums.

It's pretty complicated if you don't know a lot of PHP already, so I wouldn't worry about templates to start off with. Learn the basics first.

It is really just a matter of the difference between OS's. In Windows, file extensions actually mean sometime. In 'nix OS's, file extensions mean very little. So you can pretty much call files anything that you like. PHPBB just sticks a .tpl extension on there to identify that they a template files. You could just as easily named the files .tem or .template.
