How do i set up my own server?
Or get a faster connection where i don't have to pay a mint in ongoing costs? Australia, Victoria... |

how much you willing to pay. I don't know if it is in your country, but satilite may work for you. |

I want to upgrade from a 56K modem
I would like a connection where i pay a connection fee of upto $1000 and i get a speedy connection say 50Kbps+ Download... with the 56K modem i only get like 5Kbps Download... I don't know much about sattelite connections etc.. I would appreciate any advice.... |

If you want 50Kps+ speeds, you can get that with either DSL or cable. Whether you can actually get DSL or cable is determined by the internet service providers in your area.
I found a list of ISPs in Victoria Here by doing a Google search for ISP Victoria, Australia. After you've found some ISPs in your area, start call them to find out if they offer broadband connections, prices, contract terms, etc. and see if you can find one that'll work for you. I have DSL and get download speeds of 100kps, minimum, and have peaked out, so far, around 600kps (once). Usual speeds are around 150kps. I have friends with cable and, although cable is capable of faster speeds than DSL, their speeds seldom get above the same thing I get. |
