cable modem problem
Can anybody help with a curious problem.I have a cable modem 512kb/s.I havent had it long. When i am browsing on the internet the speeds seem really good, but when im downloading i have problems.I have been downloading of p2p sites for a while through a dial up connection but thought it was about time i upgraded.Anyway when i start downloading a file i get really good speeds but when i leave it running for a while the speeds drop of and slow down to next to nothing. This would be bad enough but if i try to browse on the net i really struggle for any sort of speed, until ive been browsing for a couple of minutes then everything speeds back up.Its as if my pc and modem are falling asleep and take a while to speed back up.This sounds stupid i know but has it fallen asleep?.

Go to www.pcpitstop.com and run internet connection tests. My WIN98 PC receive buffer was set too low. I applied patch supplied there and noticed a vast improvement.

I was having somewhat the same problem but my speed would slow down then the modem would quit all together. With At@T coming out numerous times they finally found an bad filter in the outside box and my upstairs neighbor was tapping off of my cable which lowered the ohms and caused my modem to malfunction.
