This might sound reallty dumb but anyway I wanna run a webserver on my home computer I have a static IP but my question is is there anyway to run a anaymous webserver is there anyway to hide my ip I don't like people knowing where I live and you can find out where they live and there ip wit such things as neo-trace so any ideas?

You could try a virtual host method, i did it on one of my servers and it makes it look like your hosting off someone elses machine (well in a way it does)

Another idea would be to use some freespace somewhere and have a index.html file there using a frame to point the page to your ip address, then encrypt the html file (using java script)

If any of these ideas tickle your fancy then shout and i'll explain them a bit more (thats if u need them explained),

Regards,
james

A virtual host method allows multiple sites to be hosted on one ip address, so wouldnt really hide anything, but it wouldnt look so much your system

the other idea would probably work better for privacy, i'll have a go at setting something up and show you

I cant for the life of me find what site it was that offered free encryption, i thought it was on javascript.com but isnt,
I saw a couple but they only encrypt the java part of a page, not the html so isnt any good

I'll keep at it for a bit more and see if i can find anything else,
I found a couple programs u can d/l that will encrpt the page (which i cant execute as im not on windows)

But what you would have to do is;

Signup for a free account on a freespace like www.brinkster.com

make an index.html file

in the index.html file put some code using frames to point to your ip address like;
PHP Code:
<frameset rows="*" cols="*" frameborder="no" border="0"
 <
frame src="http://ip.ip.ip.ip" name="Table">
</
frameset
then encrypt the file and no-one would no what your ip address is,

Do a search for html encryption and you will see some links to download some software

It wouldnt be completly un-tracable as if someone d/l something off you then it would say something like 'getting file.exe from http://such-n-such
But its a start

It's still possible for someone with to get the IP adress, this only hides the URL in the broswer URL field.

aym_7 - thats why i also suggested doing virtualhosts as it would look like alot of sites hosted on one server, making it (to people who didnt know any better) look like it was hosted on a web hosting companies server

But basically Justin - you cant really do it, there will always be little things that leed to you somewhere, your best bet would be sign up for freespace somewhere
