Web Page is Not Working - Errors???
This is to do with an internet banking page that fails to load on my new computer but is fine on my old one both running XPpro.
The error on the web page is "object doesn't support this property or method" and then the url. Any ideas?? I am confused and simply wish to get at my bank. They said to download Java. Having got Java on my machine all it does is slow down and eventually lock up the web site that I am trying to access. It amazes me that I can still get to the site from my old hard drive and I do not have Java installed there. However, a search for "java" files reveals several scattered all over the disk. Does anyone think that copying these to the new hard drive with thier paths would help? I have no clue how to so this except one by one after noting the path list for each file - around 20! What am I not doing right? Regards, Jennifer. |

Could you please give us info about your OS and web browser (old and new)?

Both the same xp pro and IE6,
Regards, Jennifer. Incidentally a few minutes ago a Windows Update popped up from those very nice Microsoft people. One of them includes something about "Java applet can redirect browser traffic". This is dated March 4 2002 so I thought I would already have it? I'll try it and get back |

The updates didn't help my problem, I still get the same message from the webpage.
One of my disks has Win Xp Upgraded from 98 and the other is a clean install. Is that relevant? Regards, Jennifer. |

The "object does not support..." message is usually thrown by JavaScript on the page.
You mentioned that you get the error and the url. You should also be getting a line number. Viewing the source of the page and finding the line number could possibly give you a hint. You also mentioned that one machine is an upgrade from 98 to XP and the other is a clean install. I'm assuming that the upgraded machine is the one that can still access the page. I assume this because an upgrade will retain your settings. Including security settings. M$ software used to install in "wide open" mode. That is, with the lowest level of security (if at all). Not long ago they decided to make the default "more secure". Try this: look at your IE settings ("properties") and compare the two machines. The erstwhile 98 machine probably has a lower level of security than the new box. Try matching the new box' settings to the old one's. You'll be able to tell when you are lowering the level of security because you will get the SCARY MESSAGE (tm) dialog to this effect and asking you if you really, Really, REALLY want to do this. |

Yes, you are right. The upgrade is the working copy.
I do indeed get line numbers mentioned: - Line 117 Char 3 Code 0 But what do I do with that info? I will try to balance the IE properties and see how we get on Thank you , Regards, Jennifer. |

Try reinstalling your Java Virtual Machine.
1. Search for JAVA.INF on the Windows XP CD. 2. Right-Click JAVA.INF. 3. Choose INSTALL to reinstall Java VM. Hope this helps. |

Also, there isn't anything you personally can do with those numbers. They merely tell you where in the code the error lies. It's more useful for the programmers. Since the page works on other machines, it seems like the problem might lie in a setting or configuration.

No java.inf on the Win Installation disk.
Looking at the web page screen more closely there is a message "applet not loaded" before I even try to access the secure site Regards, Jennifer Last edited by jenniferhanns; 07-23-2002 at 01:28 PM. |

An immense amount of fiddling has fixed this problem.
1. Uninstalled Java 2. In Tools>Internet Options>Advanced - Under Microsoft VM just leave JIT ticked - Hey Presto! Thank you all for your help Regards, Jennifer |
