26.4kbps-What!!!!!
Last Thursday my ISP (Dial-up usually at 44kbps) wasn't connecting at all for about 6 hours of the day. This went on for 5 days. I called up and they told me they were working on it and that it should'nt take more than a day or so. Apparently they were changing hardware in conjuction with the local telephone company.
Yesterday I notice connection at 26.4kbps after trying about 12 different local numbers. I called up and they told me the entire state is having problems with connection. Yeahh right! They tranfer me to customer service and after waiting 15 minutes I hung up. They charge $21.95 a month. How long should I give them to resolve this problem? Thanks. P.S. All my settings on dial-up networking are working fine. |

If this is a local ISP, I would complain and demand at least a partial refund for the month, or else I would go elsewhere. $21.95 is ridiculously expensive for 26.4 kpbs connections; nobody should pay more than twenty bucks, or even fifteen, for dial-up internet access. If they don't give you a refund, then go elsewhere.

I'd give them 1 week. If it isn't fixed, get a different ISP. There's enough out there.
Of course, if you are attached to your email address it can be a pain to notify everyone of the change (as well as any web sites you signed up with). I actually know of a few people that only use free mail (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc) so that they can easily change ISPs if needed. |

I'd look for a different ISP. As doctorgonzo said, that's a ridiculous price for a regular dial up connection. The first ISP that I was with started having problems and I got the same "bear with us.....we're working on it" response. Yeah, they had problems all right; to the tune of $70,000 in unpaid phone bills. They weren't up and running because the phone service said "I don't think so". Needless to say, I got tired of waiting and changed providers. No faster, still 28,800 on a good day (26,400 normally) but at least they are usually up and don't lie about things. And, they're only $12.95 a month.
