Own domain name
Is there a way to have something like http://mycompname without going through a registrar?

Not to my knowledge, I registered pepster.com and I know that no one else can use it (although no one probably would).

No itsnt possible, because that is the nature of the internet to have a domain qualifier.
As the next best alternative, you could possibly have your firm pay google or MSN search and become a sponsored site to give you a higher placement. or register all TLDs. It used to be that you could use "realnames" (a payservice from realnames.com) to be able to type the companyname to go to the URL. but realnames.com has gone off into the sunset. |
