VxD accessing internet
Just changed to Sygate firewall- says "VxD file description" is trying to access the internet- What is this file? Zonealarm never asked about this file or program. just sygate.

A VXD is a virtual device driver and depending on the OS you are using, this could be normal. Post any more info or go into the logs on the Sygate Control panel and see where it is trying to connect to. If Micky Soft it is normal

Thanks, using Win '98, thought it was unusual because Zonealarm didn't ask about it whereas Sygate firewall did. Any idea why it would be connecting to the internet?

If I allow the VxD to access the internet my laptop (which is lanned to my PC which is connected to roadrunner) my download speed is 1084 (using the CNET test), if I do not allow VxD to access internet by laptop download speed is 184. VxD has no effect on the PC's internet speed. I ran the tests with and without VxD twice for reliability and got the same results.
Anyone know what this is about- I searched the internet for Vxd using google and nothing relevant came up. Love a mystery. |

I haven't a clue what that VxD is - are you sure you are virus and trojan and spyware free?

Appears to be according to PC-Cillin, Ad-Aware, and a trojan scan on the Sygate site. I don't have the computer savy to know why denying the file access to the internet slows down the access speed of my lanned laptop- or why the file shows up on the Sygate firewall but not Zonealarm.

I am running Sygate on my Win 98 computer and have never seen that, maybe you should try a different online virus check.

You definitely need to get yourself over to www.symantec.com
PCcillin misses more viruses than mcafee and nortons accoring to some recent testing done by pc world magazine. have you kept your dats updated? No vxd should access the internet to my knowledge, unless it's some kind of trojan or something. Maybe it's something new, but I'd go get tested at symantec. Texas2Step |
