The one that shows up in your Favs menu is actually stored in your temporary internet folder. You can view it by going to Tools->Internet Options->Settings->View Files. It will not be there should you delete these files, which most people do from time to time. You can save the file/icon to somewhere else from the internet folder and then Right Click on the shorcut on your desktop->properties->Change Icon->Browse to the saved icon.

Sometimes I get the icons and sometimes I don't. If I want these icons, how to I get them? I'm assuming that it has to do with how the page is written which is why some pages don't have icons, but since PCMech does - why doesn't it show up for me?

There used to be a ref. on this site but I cant find it anymore. But I DL a program called FAVORG and it goes thru your favorites menu and checks each site for validity. Then lists them and allows you to delete the dead links if you want (favorite organizer). When it does find a valid site, if it has an icon to display it loads it for you. So far it only works for the Fav menu. Not desktop items. Which is where I keep my PCmech shortcut. Since this is the first place I come anyway.

FavOrg is about favicons. Favicons appeared with Internet Explorer 5.0. Whenever you connect to a Web site that proposes a favicon, Internet Explorer will download that icon to your system and will use it for any shortcut or menu item created for this web link. This is a useful feature because this will make finding a particular site in your Favorites folder easier, especially if you have many favorites.
Interesting yes?. So, admin types, does PCMECH have a "favicon"?

Hah! and the favicon is stored in the Favorg>data folder. So they wont be deleted in the temp folder.
So I Changed the desktop shortcut properties to that folder.
Cool.
This is my idea of a computer game.

It's odd, usually Favicon.ico is found in the root folder, but I can't seem to locate it for PCMech. It's not in the images folder either. Yet I've seen the PCMech icon before. Something's fishy here...

I meant the root folder on the webserver. I delete all my temp internet files every so often so the icon is no longer there. What I'm wondering is where on the webserver the icon is located.
