FTP question
Hello fellow PCMECHer's,
I'm using the PowWeb hosting service, and WS FTP for a file transferring program. Anyway, I'm actually setting up this space for a client's web page (my first BTW). They have no page on it right now, but want to host some images for eBay auctions. Now I have sucessfully uploaded a jpeg to the correct folder on the web space, but cannot figure out how to view the thing, or link to it for the auction. Their existing website is www.railartunlimited.com and it is presently being hosted by someone else. They are signed up with PowWeb, and the account has been active for several days. Once I connect to the server with WS FTP, I can see 3 folders. One is cgi-bin (for EXE's, and other files, this is where I put the jpeg). 2 is htdocs (where I upload all of their web page stuff). The 3rd is logs. I already tried www.railartunlimited.com/cgi-bin/Kansas City In Steam.jpeg, to no avail. What am I doing wrong? Is it because their site hasn't transferred over to PowWeb yet? Do I need a different URL? Thanks, people. |

Interesting. I designed a railroad site a while back for a guy.
I usually create a folder called images and put all of the image files in that directory. Make sure of a couple of things. One is that you are not putting your pictures in a directory below the Webroot of the site or they won't be visible. Two if your documents and your images are in two separate directories, link to them in your html documents like so: /image_directory/imagename. |

First pictures don't go in CGI-BIN. CGI is for scripts and things like message boards etc. You should create a folder called images if you want your images in other than the main directory. Then you would call your image online like this
www.sitename.com/images/image-name.jpg Without a corresponding html (htm) page to have it placed on the picture will just come up in the left hand corner of your screen as only a picture with a white background. The other thing you have to watch is long file names. This is especially true with you htm documents. Texas2Step |

If their site is still resolving to the old hosting, you'll have to use the numbers for the new site not the www.name.com
