pop ups that shouldn't be allowed

Ok. We have all seen them. Pop up adds on almost any website.

We can also get software to to combat these adds.

So ppl using such software probably don't know just how much farther these adds have gone. Adult website adds are known for being the most annoying.

1. They pop up alot of times from non porn related sites.

2. When U close a window, the java scripting opens more and more windows as you try to close them.

3. Some of them Maximize to fill the full screen while at the same time not giving a choice to exit. Where alot of PC users know to 3 finger salute and ctrl alt del. Some ppl are left with no choice but to shut down their pC.

Why is this my choice to vent on tonight. Well, where i work I used to be a phone tech and when the techs get backed up with calls I still have to take some. I hear this from customers and have seen it first hand myself.

Should they be allowed to make ads that could interfear with some people's ability to use there PC?

I have had customers cancel internet accounts over stuff like that.

Alot of internet users dont' have the understanding of out the net works, How PC's work. I would say a good number of internet users do believe the net comes from their local provider, they dont' see it as a world community until they get in chat room and email. Even then they call their local company if they can surf, email and everythign provided by their ISP or NSP but can't access such and such website. Then they get mad and their ISP/NSP.

I am just going in circles, been up too long tonight. I will probably read this tomorrow and wonder wha the hell i was typing.

before throwing rocks, I am big for freedom on the internet.

Don't forget that a lot of those customers have probably downloaded stuff like Gator or Cydoor that also produce the Pop-Ups and not the website.
Make a bunch of copies of the freeware, Spybot - Search and Destroy and then when they come in show them what spyware is and give them a copy.

I think more people need to be informed of the two finger salute 'CRTL W' which will close any open window. I've found it works wonders for those pages where the entire toolbar is removed.

i found that using anti-popup soft works wonders, it filters 90% of them and when you need a "useful" popup, holding down CTRL or something lets you open that. Unfortualy most programs need 2 be paid 4... ne free ones out there?

The best solution I've personally found was just to switch browsers. IE and Netscape don't allow you any options to disable unwanted windows. I've tried anti-popup software before and just didn't like the performance. Plus it would often alter the content of the page, which at times is content that you would like to be there (images and the like).

I have been using PopUp Stopper from Panicware for quite awhile now and really like it. If you need to let a pop up come thru you just double click on the icon in the tray to disable it.

It's here - the free version that I use is at the bottom of the page.

I use this Free browser , which has a built in pop up stopper . ( don't add , About Blank , to the existing filter list )
Uses very little resources ( No Add's ) & is as good as any other browser .
Intergrates quitely into your system , does not take over . You can still run your normal browser , if you wish .
Uses the IE engine , but is very fast & stable .
