Faxing

I don't have a telephone long distance carrier since I use a rechargeable prepaid card.

Is there a way to send a fax using this card. I normally dial a 1-800 number and then a 10digit pin number before I can actually dial the intended #. I suppose there may be a way to do this even if it's doing it online over a server. Any ideas suggestions.

You should be able to set that up in the dialing rules in Windows telephony.

In Win2K, its in control panel, phone and modem options, dialing rules, edit, calling card.

Thanks I found it in XP. My MCI card doesn't support any of those numbers so I probably need to get another card that supports one of those numbers or ask MCI if they can transfer my numbers. I suppose this is a one time use for faxing and then I can change the number back to my local ISP. Is that right?

Also how do I set up to receive faxes with the WindowsXP faxing program? Thanks.

I believe you can set up a custom card in there - and just make it a different location so you can define which location is used for what - fax or internet.

In 2K you open fax in control panel, advanced, fax service management console, devices, dbl click on the modem.

Pissed Still trying

Still trying to figure this maze.

I need the fax to dial like this:

calling card number / 1-800-number +
wait 6 seconds+
dial 1(for english)+
wait 2 seconds+
calling card PIN number +
wait 2 seconds +
dial 1 +
fax number (area code & number) where I want to sent fax to.

I went thru help section on dialing rules & creating a new calling card number along with setting the steps but there are so many places where is asking for fax number and dialing numbers that it gets a little confusing. Dialing rules, area code rules, calling card rules, long distance rules. The first window from the fax wizard wants a fax number, but if I enter anything other than the calling card number it's not going thru because I only have local calling access in my phone plan, no long distance calling, this is why I use the calling card for. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Still trying

Why not just enter it as a custom card .. here's what I did:

(1) Control Panel > Phone line & Modem settings
(2) In the dialling rules click NEW
(3) Then click Calling Card Tab
(4) Click New
(5) Give it a name in calling card name (i called it TEST)
(6) In PIN number enter the number (i put it as 123)
(7) and click Long distance tab
(8) For access number enter the 800 number
(9) Then click the Wait for Prompt button > Option wait for specified Length of time and increase it to 6 seconds - Click OK
then click the specify digits: put 1 and click OK
(10) Click wait for prompt button > Option wait for specified length of time and make it 2 second Click OK
(11) Click PIN
(12) Put another 2 second wait as step ( 10)
(13) Click Destination number: check mark the box for dialling area and country code too.

This is a screenshot of what i did:

excuse me if i've missed some steps but u get the general idea of it (am at work and harried on a monday).

btw, sometimes u can try dialling the whole thing in sequence :
like 18005551212,,,1,123,1-faxnumber

Also if u use the the aforementioned steps all u need to do is change the PIn when the card expires.

I was able to dial locally so the program works. But I am still having problems with the calling card settings when sending a fax outside of my local area. Everything dials ok until the last sequence of numbers for the fax, then the modem says something I can't hear and asks me again to dial the designated number, which means to me it's not recognizing the fax number or so? Any ideas? Maybe using the local calls tab instead of the long distance? Thanks.

Local calls tab doesn't even dial. Back to long distance but still having the same problem, the last string of numbers(region, area, number) begins to dial then the fax number sound but it fails to send, message "line busy" but line is ok. Any suggestions.
