Dialup question

Someone has a dialup connection that works fine. When they close the browser they always get a pop up asking if they want to close their internet connection. This is also fine and what they prefer. The problem lies in that they always get two pop ups prompting disconnection instead of one. Clicking disconnect closes the connection but there is always a second disconnect box that has to be closed. I looked at the system and didn't find anything out of the ordinary with Dial-Up Networking or with the modem. As I said the connection seems to run fine although the 56K modem only connects at around 33K but they are out in the country so maybe it's the phone line.

Any ideas?

The machine runs win98 with Netscape 4.78.

Send a message via AIM to Xayd
Check and see if you have a duplicate DUN entry in internet options under connections.

I believe Netscape has the ability to do this as well, so you might remove the setting to prompt to disconnect from internet options (which only relates to IE) and see if that takes care of one of the prompts.

Is that feature something only netscape does since I do not remember that on my dial up using IE.

Thanks Xyad - I'll have them check and see. They do have IE4.0 installed as well (default with win98) but they don't use it.

edrod13 > IE does have something like that, although I'm not sure how to make it do it. I use IE, and all I know is every so often (maybe once a month or so) I'll do something different and IE will pop up a box saying "do you wish to disconnect". Again, don't know how I end up with that but it does do it sometimes.

Glc,

I am running WIn2k and IE 5.01 SP2 and when I go into the ADVANCED tab all I see is "DISCONNECT WHEN CONNECTION NO LONGER IS NEEDED." Since this is the only thing related to what I was looking for I checked it. Once I was on the net for a couple of minutes I closed up the Explorer window and I was never prompted if I wanted to disconnect so here I am back on the forum typing this to see what I did wrong. Thanks

Did you highlight the default connection before going into Settings?

Glc,

Yes I did highlight the default connection and I only saw that particular setting so I checked it but it did not work. Maybe tonight when I get home I will take a sreen shot of the prompt I am talking about since I would like to accomplish this but I can wait. So you know what the setting I should check says by chance and is it the one I posted earlier. Thanks

Well,

I checked it again today and went online for a few mintues. I closed the IE windows and never got a prompt asking me if I wanted to disconnect. I guess this is probably an issue with win2k since there is the known issue that it never actually reports your actual connect speed on a dail up connection. Here is what I checked and I even rebooted the machine even though windows never asked me to. TIA
