Can't download?

My friend with Win 98 can't download anything with AOL. It says that the file is not safe and it can't verify. I dunno, I told him that I will come over and see whats wrong. Do you think cookies have something to do with it?

No, I think AOL has something to do with it.

I wouldn't touch AOL with a 10-foot pole and so I don't know much about it, but obviously it is blocking attachments for security reasons, i.e. a downloaded file could be a virus. Which it could, but not being able to download anything is a pain.

Have you tried checking AOL's security options? There may be something there to allow downloads. But the best advice would be to dump AOL.

Heh, I told all my friends that, and told them to get cable like me but they all comply to saying, "Are you paying for me?"

That's hillarious. Hmm, I never touched AOL either but I'll go over to his house and see what's wrong.

He doesn't need to get cable, nor does he need anybody to pay for him. Ask him what he is paying now for AOL, and then ask him if it is less than $9 or $10 for unlimited access with no annoying software or the kind of crap that is keeping him from downloading things. Just tell him that with AOL, he is paying an arm and a leg for the privilege of being kept from downloading things.

Minimize AOL and use IE or another browser, see what happens.

acually having had used aol for many years, even i havent incountered anything quite like this. its quite pecuilar. your friend might want to check his settings. or try the master account if not already on it. if the master works he might need to change the parental controls.

Hmm, interesting, I just got home after an hour of seeing what's wrong. I don't have a slight clue what is wrong. Modem is connected, AOL is properly installed, and settings seem alright. Maybe there's a corrupt file in his Win98 that is messing with the internet settings. If all else fails, I'll tell him to get a new computer because his computer is pretty old.

Btw, he pays $20 cdn for AOL monthly.

Sympatico dialup is $22 a month for unlimited access, e-mail, web space- all the stuff you get from aol and it won't block anything unless you want it to.
