AOL, AdaWare, and Popups
If a person is dead-set on using AOL and wants me to d'l AdaWare and Popup Stopper, what kind of problems might I encounter?
Doesn't AOL have their own popup ads and some spyware? Carl |

aol is spyware, not really. aol uses there own browser so it's hard to say, I would think that it would be less then if you were to use IE. Anything that would cause aol browser not to work the way it should I think it would maybe not allow for that. (not pull up a certain page, or pop up)

I guess I'll find out. Why people pay half the price of DSL or cable for AOL is beyond me. Then they complain about the popups. Carl |

I can't believe people are dead set on using AOL. It is so expensive for dial up and has way too many ads and popups.

Not to mention that it always wants to download or update something everytime you do anything, even when you try and uninstall aol it wants to go online for some reason.

Kubie- If this person is a friend and you want to ween them away from AOL (When I type that I always feel that I am leaving out an "H" between the "A" and the "O"), let them get onto AOL, then have them sub-screen the AOL page and show them they can surf using Internet Explorer. Most AOL users do not realize this. This way you can point out that they have a larger screen and do not have to sit and look at the advertisments.

Very good idea. Also, my experience with Mozilla has been a positive one and I may show them that too. My opinion is that AOL causes most of their grief. Thanks for the idea. Carl |

Its like some people get a kick out of destroying more popup ads.
I prefer a better ISP and then I don't even deal with them, they are not fun. I get enough popups from websites Last edited by DilLy; 11-01-2002 at 10:53 PM. |

Thanks for the help fellas.
If I could talk them out of AOL, I would. Its like hitting a stone wall. I didn't want to install ad or popup programs if it will screw up their connection or cause problems with their ISP. Carl |

The only way you can not cause them problems with there aol connection/ISP is to never touch his PC. He will still have problems, but not from you. From what I have seen in the past with aol, a simple reboot of the computer can become terminal.

Im happy i changed from AOL. Trust me, its not worth the 20 dollars a month, but with networking, DSL is worth more.

Mikey, if you mean unsubscribing to their service, then I have an excellent script to use when calling those anti-close your account-nazis. And it is good, I'm selling it for $5 a pop. I work in a call center and know how the game is played.

I mean trying to remove the AOL browser and other AOL stuff from a hard drive. I don't personally have AOL....no way, I was just wondering.

Hi mikey_dude,the best way is not even load anything that resembles AOL. but it happens, so remove whatever says AOL from ADD/REMOVE programs, then do a file search and again kill (delete) anything AOL...shortcuts on your desktop etc ..... If you are comfortable I highly recommend cleaning out your/or who evers registry afterwards.
