SPAMCOP.net and others

Hello,

Has anyone here made use of http://www.spamcop.net ? I am getting so much SPAM that I am looking at other options. I already use SPAMASSASSIN on the mail server but it still let's plenty of SPAM go through (even if it works great). I heard about SPAMCOP but before I spend $30 I wanted to see if somebody else is using it and how is your experience.

I also used a plugin for Outlook from http://www.cloudmark.com (spamnet) but the latest version crashes Outlook and I heard complaints that it is less effective.

How do you fight SPAM?

Just not opening it can keep things from getting worse. Don't give out your main address. Apply strict filtering rules.

That's about all I do. Prevention. It's not flawless though (and I take it the antispam proggy's aren't either)

Hi there

I even use email addressess like this "amazon@mydomain.com" when buying stuff online to track SPAM and where it comes from. So, every shop I use has a different email address from me and my catch-all email account can filter it - but still - I get plenty of SPAM and it just is annoying. I also use a Hotmail account for some stuff and it catches a lot.

I use a mail 'filter' called MailWasher. You can get it from www.mailwasher.net

It's free and pretty user friendly. Stuff will still get past the filters, but before they hit my inbox I can preview the message and make it for deletion if I feel it's SPAM.

Thanks! I tried mailwasher already but do not like it. It is not convenient using a second software before I actually get to my mail.

I found it to be exactly the opposite -- I just let it sit there in my system tray and when I'm ready to check my mail, I click on it, mark messages for blacklisting/deletion and then process the mail. My e-mail client pops up and I'm all set to go.

BTW, Mailwasher uses the SPAMCOP database for it's blacklists. It still misses plenty -- really not it's fault since it checks by domain. Many SPAMMERS use fake domians or domains they know will be allowed through by these types of databases (AOL, MSN, Yahoo.....). So you'll basically be paying for something that you could have for free and only using one of the available databases while Mailwasher is using 3 (SPAMCOP, VISI & ORDB).

it will let you choose from 19 or so DNSBL lists.

free and can be very effective.

mailwasher will release version 2.0 very soon. Yesterday the site said that it would come out this week. I am curious and hope it will be better than the old version.

Oh, forgot to mention. Cloudmark has released a new version of their spam filter. I am testing it right now. So far my Outlook has not crashed (10 minutes)

I have about 10 accounts that I need for business and personal stuff. It just adds up. The last couple of weeks have been really bad - not just normal SPAM but Po*n and that stuff - disgusting!
