Webcam, Netmeeting??? Suggestions please!!
This is to follow up on a previous question regarding microphone use with MSN:
We have an Australian exchange student staying with us and she would like to contact her parents daily via the internet using voice, webcam, etc. I have a Logitech web cam that I’ve never used along with a microphone of course. How should I go about setting this up so it’s convenient for both sides. Should I use Netmeeting or something else?

Netmeeting is easy to use, and as it is included with windows, practically everyone has it.

yeah, Netmeeting is OK... as long as both parties are using the same program, it should work nicely... i've used Netmeeting and the program on Yahoo's messenger... both are free.
Good Luck. |

Yahoo Messenger is easier to use than NetMeeting, all what you need is the program and a Yahoo ID on both sides.

Would this work even if you're behind a firewall (router)? Would you have to open a specific port? I know I've tried netmeeting through ICS and didn't work.

Yes, you do have to open a port on the firewall, I'm not sure which one though... maybe someone else does. Or, if your router supports it you can put your computer as DMZ, which basically turns off the firewall.

The logitech IM Vid Companion is supposed to work even if you have a firewall. I haven't had a chance to try it yet tho.
