save file as - ie6

Used to be that when I clicked a link to a zip file, it would open a save file as window and I would be able to save it to my computer. Recently whenever I click a zip file it downloads to temp internet files and opens in winrar. How would I change this back so I can save the files instead of having them automatically open?

no, it's not in winrar. i've got the same problem. i used to click on a link that should bring up the save as box, but now it opens the file. i have to right click on the link and go to save target as all the time.

go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and hit Restore Defaults. That might help...

I tried that and it is still opening the file rather than saving.

What would you like for Zip files to do when you double click on them after they have been saved? It sounds like Winrar is registered as a "helper application" or "viewer" instead of just being the default "open with". Check Tools, Folder Options, File Types, scroll to ZIP, and check Advanced. Mine has "open" and "print" and nothing else - but mine is associated with Winzip.

I also have that problem but it's with MP3s, and i have WinAmp installed, and it wasn't a problem till i got the IE7 upgrade, so i blame Microsoft and IE7 :/
